Mrs. Rhonda Byce

Nathanael Greene Academy proudly announces that Mrs. Rhonda Byce of Greensboro has been hired as the new Middle School Language Arts Teacher for the year 2018-2019. She brings with her not only her expertise as a teacher but her love and care for the children. She is dedicated to helping children become the best they can be. Mrs. Byce is the daughter of Florence and Fred Moon who formally owned Moon’s Grocery in Greensboro. She was an honor graduate of NGA and graduated Cum Laude from Georgia College with a Bachelor of Science degree in General Business Administration, and later received her Elementary Education Teacher Certification from Georgia College. She has been married to Bill  Byce for 38 and a half years. They have one son, Billy Byce, who was also a NGA honor graduate and is a teacher and coach at Brookwood School in Thomasville, Ga. He has been married to Brandi Angli for 9 yrs. blessing Mr. and Mrs. Byce with 3 beautiful granddaughters. Mrs. Byce has been a member of First Baptist Church in Greensboro all of her life having taught Youth Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years; and now serves as Church clerk, substitute Sunday School teacher, and on the Mission Committee.

Mrs. Byce taught at Nathanael Greene for 22 years– teaching 2nd grade for 21 years and 3rd grade for 1 year – before retiring in 2013. “Miss” Byce ,as the children lovingly called her, inspired so many children! Her smile, her laughter, her way of teaching, and her encouragement made them want to learn. They knew she cared! She is excited to return to NGA and be reunited with students, faculty, and parents of NGA. In her own words” I can’t wait to get there in August! NGA is home to me, and I believe that home is where the heart is!” We are excited to have her rejoin our family at NGA.

Coach Kevin  Nichols

Mr. Kevin Nichols, a lifelong resident of Greene County, has been named the Nathanael Greene Academy Head Varsity Football Coach for the year 2018-2019. Kevin is a 1973 graduate of NGA. After graduating he immediately started helping coach football for the NGA Varsity and B- Team football teams. He has worked with coaches such as Gene Harper and Charles Crumbley. He coached well known players such as Billy McCommons, Ralph Boswell, Farrett Boswell, and Greg Brown to name a few. His defensive and offensive lines became known as “Nick’s Bricks.”  He has been married to Miss Wilma for 43 years; has 2 daughters and 4 grandsons. They attend Macedonia Baptist Church and volunteers wherever he is needed. He worked 19 and a half years for Lawrence Oil Company and a total of 25 years with NAPA where he is currently employed.

NGA is very excited for what Kevin  will bring to our football program. He is a very positive thinking, caring, and kind man. In his own words Kevin says ” I am excited for the opportunity to lead these young student athletes in a way that will prepare them for the future.” He is going to stress fundamentals in all 3 phases of the game. He is going to promote sportsmanship as well as building positive character traits. Coach Kevin has already started spring practice and the team is excited and looking forward to the football season.  NGA welcomes Coach Kevin Nichols to our family.NGA is very

Mrs. Zandy Cook

Nathanael Greene Academy announces that Zandy Cook of Greensboro is going to be the new pre-kindergarten teacher for the 3 and 4 year old program for the year 2018-2019. She is replacing Sonia Garner who is retiring after 33 years of teaching at NGA. Mrs. Cook graduated from Habersham Central High School in Mt. Airy, Ga. She has been married to Fred Cook for 31 years; has 3 children and 1 grandchild. Their family attends Fork Chapel Methodist Church in Greshamville where she is also the assistant music director. Miss Zandy has been operating a Family Daycare Learning Home for 26 years, teaching an educational curriculum to children 2 1/2  yrs – 4 yrs old that ensures a strong foundation of early learning. Every year  for 26 years she has taken 10 hours of continuing education classes to operate as a learning home. She has taught over 83 children with most staying with her an average of 3 years. All of the children loved going to Miss Zandy’s! She made them feel loved and cared for. They always had fun and loved learning their ABC’s etc. with her. Miss Zandy is well known all over the county for her wonderful daycare- usually your child was put on a waiting list and you definitely considered yourself blessed if your child got in. She brings to our school the love of children and the love of teaching them. In her words- ” I am thankful for the opportunity that has been given me to be able to teach at NGA and to continue working with 3 and 4 yr olds. The environment at NGA is much like that of a home. It is an atmosphere where children feel safe, loved, appreciated, and where even the youngest children know they have value and are part of a family. This ensures learning and growth. I am proud to be a part of the NGA family as well.” We at Nathanael Greene Academy are so excited to have Miss Zandy join our family!
