Ideas to help you child develop study skills.
The student surveys each section of the text by first reading the boldfaced print, looking at the visuals, and reading the captions under the visual displays. The student then generates a general statement about what he or she will be reading, allowing him or her to focus on the content of the reading material. After each section, the student stops to recap the main idea of the completed segment. This strategy helps the student become actively engaged with and focused on the text.
